Decent work

Work is one of the most important aspects of human life. That is why the International Labour Organisation introduced the concept of a decent job into its programme more than thirty years ago, setting out the objectives on which the quality of work and the quality of life of those who do it depend.

The most important of these are universal access to employment, respect for workers' rights, decent wages, social protection for workers and their families, and social dialogue in the workplace.

The general idea of decent work is to respect the fundamental rights of workers in terms of safety and pay and their physical and mental well-being.
